Since 1988, Chopard has been a permanent partner and official timekeeper of the legendary Mille Miglia race initiated 90 years ago. In 1927, two Italian aristocrats, disappointed at losing by their dear Brescia the right to host Grand prix of Italy, opened a new car race. Mille Miglia race became special because drivers compete not on the track but on ordinary roads. Over time, the rally won the reputation of the world most prestigious endurance race for classic cars. According to tradition originating in 1988, this year one of the participants of the race will be Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, co-president of Chopard and a passionate racer and amateur of collection cars. The Mille Miglia collection, named after the world-known Italian rally, embodies the vintage charm of the legendary race. Mille Miglia is a watch collection which has become a kind of sports symbol of the brand. Thanks to the unique, instantly recognizable design, the collection is considered as the classic of modern watchmaking. The watch attracted attention with famous red accents and contains allusions to Mille Miglia racing cars: engine-like buttons, brake pedal-like anti-slip surfaces, the famous rubber strap with a pattern of Dunlop tires of the 1960s.  Thirty years of abiding love for "the most beautiful race in the world." Who can boast of such constancy? In honor of the prominent anniversary, this year Chopard presents special watches with a COSC certificate issued in a limited and numbered series: Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition. It is a model of 44 mm in diameter that is the personification of passion, style, and accuracy. Be aware and do not miss the start: Chopard watch workshops will release only 1,000 steel pieces and 100 pieces of steel and 18-carat pink gold. The heart of the watch beats inside the case; an impeccably accurate self-winding manufactory mechanism being a certified chronometer, it is a vivid testimony to Chopard watchmaking excellence. Regularity Traffic regularity races express the essence of this concept. The greatest importance there is not the maximum speed but the ability to maintain a given pace. The clock mechanism with the chronometer certificate of the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition has an error of run of + 4/-4 seconds per day. Nothing is left to chance. The balance frequency of 28,800 vph and a 42-hour power reserve guarantee the regularity of the self-winding watch movement. Thoroughness It is also a characteristic of the race. Mille Miglia does not tolerate an approximate approach. To pass the tests, it is necessary to explore the route, to have a detailed road book, and to prepare scrupulously for the race. Having created the first Mille Miglia watch more than 30 years ago, the manufacturer’s watchmakers were guided by the most detailed criteria. Now the same strict requirements are fundamental for the Mille Miglia 2018 Race Edition which enrich the collection this year. A bouchonné-style dial, delicately worked details of buttons and a crown, a sapphire crystal caseback with an inscription in memory of the 30th anniversary are fewer than all examples of the highest level of decoration of the new chronograph.
